A British homeowner said a terracotta vase that sat in an outside garden for 20 years was found to be a 3, 000-year-old ancient Egyptian artifact.

The owner, who asked not to be named, said experts determined the 13-inch-tall vase was designed to hold a liver for use in the afterlife, with the face of Egyptian god Imseti adorning the lid to watch over the organ, The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

It came from an uncle who was a bit of a collector and when he died about 20 years ago it came to us, the owner said to the newspaper. We didn't know what it was and we have kept it on the patio and in the shed over the years. It was just used as a decorative piece, a lump of stone. Then I looked at it and saw it had a face and it looked a bit Egyptian so we took it in to be valued and was told it was from ancient Egypt.

The vase, which experts said was from between 1550 and 1069 B.C., is to be sold Thursday at Duke's auction house in Dorchester, England.

E' stato accertato che si tratta di un antico vaso CANOPO egiziano di oltre 3000 anni.

Il proprietario, che ha chiesto di non essere nominato, ha chiamato alcuni esperti che hanno determinato che il vaso in questioneserviva per contenere un fegato di qualche mummia per l'uso nell'aldilà.

Ad un giornale, il proprietario ha dichiarato che tutto e' nato a causa di un suo zio che si dilettava a collezionare diversi oggetti.

20 anni fa, prima di morire, un pomeriggio, venne da noi portandoci questo vaso.

Noi non sapevamo cosa fosse e da allora lo abbiamo lasciato sul nostro patio.

Nel corso di questi venti anni è stato utilizzato come "elemento decorativo"...poi un giorno lo abbiamo osservato attentamente e ci è sembrato di intravedere un volto che sembrava egiziano.

Così abbiamo pensato di chiamare qualcuno per farlo "valutare".

Il vaso, che è stato dichiarato da alcuni esperti risale al periodo intorno al 1550/1069 a.c., sta per essere venduto Venerdì presso la casa d'asta DUKE'S in Dorchester, in inghilterra.

Ricordiamo infatti che in Inghilterra vige la regola che qualsiasi cosa sia rinvenuta da un privato è di sua proprietà.

Lo stato ha solamente la "prelazione" di poter fare un'offerta PARI alla massima offerta che il privato riesce a ricevere, entro un'anno dall'avvenuta scoperta.
